Where Does Chi Come From?

There is not much known as to the origin of chi.  Chi does exist but even the ancient Chinese sages do not have a clue how it came into being.  Chi exists in all animate beings and this is the force responsible for the growth, energy, propagation of species and intelligence of organisms.  Chi maybe likened to prana, which in Hindu tradition is the life force flowing inside each living organism.

Prana has three primary sources:  The sun, air and the earth, which, basically, is similar to where the sources of chi are found, according to ancient Chinese tradition.  Chi might be considered as the nutrients found in plants.  We can say then that nourishment of the plants comes from the organic soil, the sun and water.  The elements that enable the plant to grow and propagate are its chi.

In essence, elements from the earth, the sun and air that enable the plants to grow are the chi that sustains plant life and the nutrients animals get from the sun, their sources of food and the air are basically, the chi for those animals.

If the sun, the air and the earth hold elements that animals and plants need for chi, where did those elements come from in the first place?  Sadly, even the ancient Chinese sages and Indian mystics acknowledge the great cloak of mystery of the universe.  The forces of gravity and electromagnetism are two of the most notable forces that govern heavenly bodies.

The interaction of these two forces create visible, energy and matter and intangible other creations still unknown to the human mind.  It will remain unknown for a long time since these creations are all beyond the grasp of the human senses and empirical science.

It is the great leap which ancient sages from around the world have made, caused by the power of intuition (and perhaps a little help from other worldly beings), that have given humankind the knowledge of chi and how to maintain and harness it.

The ancients believed in gods and goddesses.  Perhaps these entities have bestowed knowledge of this life force that pervades the universe to our ancestors.  Perhaps they have aided our ancient sages in selecting herbs and plants that when mixed or by itself, bestow healing and medicinal benefits to humankind – herbs and plants that they may have planted themselves here on earth.

Some of these plants may even be here on earth to serve as channels to assist us continue communicating with these beings on a psychical level.  Plants like the ayahuasca plant and peyote have enabled shamans to communicate with their “gods and goddesses.”

We may never know where chi really originated but the question really has not been pursued for the reason that however or wherever it originated, we can thank our lucky stars (or maybe our benevolent entities) that its knowledge gave us therapies that have been of valuable help for all humankind.
