As the weather cools off in many parts of the country the number of sore throat cases arises. Autumn and winter will see a bump in sore throat cases affecting tots, teens and adults alike. Fortunately, sore throat can be treated with acupuncture in Miami.
When the pharynx becomes inflamed, sore throat (medical term, pharyngitis) occurs. We can cite several possible reasons why individuals develop a sore throat. This may include allergies, breathing in the mouth, or smoking. But the two most common reasons for this condition is bacteria and virus. One of the fastest ways these pathogens are spread is during the resumption of school in the autumn. The exposure spreads past the classroom when infected students flock to parties, dances, and football games increasing the number of cases of mononucleosis, strep throat, tonsillitis, and the common cold.
A lot of adults also can be infected with these diseases although mononucleosis will usually strike teens between the ages of fifteen to seventeen. Mono is known as the “kissing disease” since it usually is transferred mouth to mouth by teenagers who often date. Saliva is the vehicle in which mononucleosis and other conditions that cause sore throat are transmitted and kissing is not the only way these diseases are spread. Being in close proximity to an infected person who sneezes or coughs or sharing a straw with an infected person can infect you, as well.
Sore throat is very easily passed from person to person because people who carry the bacteria/ virus show no symptoms of their condition. So, these individuals may not have any idea that they pose a threat to others. They infect others without them knowing that they’re actually doing so. In the case of mono which has a long incubation period of 30 to 50 days, the symptoms will only begin to manifest after a month or so. This means you may already have potentially infected a lot of people during those times.
It’s virtually impossible to avoid the germs that cause sore throat and practically everyone will experience a sore throat condition at least once in his/her lifetime. Sore throats have nasty symptoms and naturally, you would want expedient relief. What is the quickest way to remove this condition?
It is important to understand that people who are suffering from swallowing difficulties, high fever or symptoms that persist for several days should first talk to their doctor. But most of the time, people with these symptoms especially with just a standalone sore scratchy, and dry throat tend to self-treat themselves by buying over-the-counter drugs and allow symptoms to dissipate by itself. Most are unaware that acupuncture combined with lots of fluid intake and rest is a much more effective and quicker way to eliminate their symptoms.
A 2012 study published in the U.S. National Library of Medicine, involving 74 sore throat patients revealed that acupuncture is able to lessen their severity of sore throat discomfort and pain just within a minute of treatment. Acupuncture is an important part of TCM or Traditional Chinese Medicine which theorizes that the human body possesses a form of vital energy known as Qi that flows throughout the body via channels of energy known as meridians. A disruption of this flow will lead to sickness, and/or pain.
In order to restore normal flow in the meridians acupuncturists would need to know what meridian or meridians are affected. In the case of sore throat, a qualified acupuncturist will often insert needles in multiple meridian points to strengthen the immune system, remove phlegm, add moisture in the body in order to treat the scratchy dry feeling, and remove inflammation (heat).
The cause of pharyngitis is often different for each person although people may suffer common symptoms. So, your acupuncturist will need to inquire about your condition and about yourself in order to gain a better understanding of your constitution and the unique condition you’re experiencing in order to determine the patterns of disharmony and select correctly what meridians need to be treated. This means that even though two patients may suffer from a sore throat, their manner of treatment will be different.
If you feel you are going down with a sore throat, talk to a licensed acupuncturist who can help strengthen your immune system and relieve your sore throat symptoms at the same time.
