Acupuncture for Allergies

Allergies are health issues where the body becomes over sensitive to specific things. Allergy symptoms may differ from person to person. They may include weakness, breathing difficulties, rashes, skin irritations and red or watery eyes.  When an allergy is diagnosed, one of the ideal recommendations is to stay away from the things that trigger the allergy. Allergy can be treated in several ways. Allergy sufferers may opt for treatment modalities such as yoga, homeopathy, acupuncture, medication and other forms of therapies.

One of the best treatments for allergy is acupuncture. It is also one of the most popular alternative forms of treatment here in the United States for a number of health conditions. Acupuncture is part of traditional Chinese medicine’s way of treatment involving the insertion of fine, thin needles into certain points in the body to relieve or manage pain and/or prevent and cure certain types of diseases.

Acupuncture therapy involves the balancing of vital energy called chi flowing inside and throughout the body via energy pathways called meridians. According to traditional Chinese medicine, any disruption and imbalance of chi flow impacts the health of the person. The points inserted with acupuncture needles are balanced and stimulated throughout the body enabling the body to heal itself. In treating allergies, acupuncture can be used as a stand-alone treatment or combined with other modalities such as medicines. People generally prefer acupuncture over the use of medicines because it has no side effects. The patient receives a plan of treatment from the acupuncturist to relieve him of his allergy symptoms. The acupuncturist likewise beefs up the immune system and cures the underlying cause of the problem of the patient. Patients have different reactions to their allergy. With this in mind, the acupuncturist accordingly embarks on a plan of treatment that correctly addresses the problem. He decides the depth and direction on how the needles are to be inserted in the body of the patient.  A typical session acupuncture treatment for allergy may last for 20 minutes to a full hour.  The length of time the acupuncture takes effect on the patient’s condition may depend on the severity of the symptoms and the constitution of the patient.
