Acupuncture Can Help Treat UTI Patients Who Have Developed Antibiotic Resistance to the Disease

Health experts and authorities are alarmed at the growing threat of antibiotic resistance among patients suffering from urinary tract infection (UTI). In fact, they deem this to be a major reason why UTI, especially among women, has become persistent or acute or as a disease.

There are about 12 million people suffering from acute UTI in the United States alone in spite of the spike in sales of across-the-counter antibiotics.

Medical health authorities blame the overuse of antibiotics in the treatment of UTI to be the primary reason why a huge number of UTI sufferers can no longer recover with antibiotic drugs.

These days, healthcare providers permit some of their UTI patients who have developed antibiotic resistance to try out alternative form of therapies on the condition that appropriate consultations should first be made prior to the actual treatment using an alternative type of treatment. Most people believe that the best form of alternative treatment nowadays is Chinese acupuncture.

Results from clinical studies performed by scientists at the University of Bergen in Norway have already established a medical basis for using Miami’s acupuncture in the treatment of urinary tract infection. They show that acupuncture to be highly effective in addressing urinary tract infection by significantly improving symptoms in 75% of the women patients who were involved in the clinical studies.

Reports from those studies show that a random application of acupuncture treatments was given on women patients specifically, the needling of the acupoints located on the lower stomach, lower extremities, or back which was based on the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) diagnosis. The treatments were administered for four weeks two times a week, and for about six months and any UTI recurrence after acupuncture treatment was duly monitored.

The outcomes were impressive. They showed that that was a 52% rate of success among patients who received non-acupuncture UTI treatments; on the other hand, of the women who received acupuncture treatment about 73% of them were entirely symptom-free.

Scientists suggest that the reason why acupuncture worked in treating urinary tract infection is because the treatment has helped reduce residue level in the urine. A traditional Chinese medicine analysis for the outcomes is ascribed acupuncture’s ability to promote the flow of energy (Chi) in the lower stomach.

What is “Chi”?

Chi is a concept that refers to the vital elements that make up the human body. This includes the life giving substances. Therefore, Chi may mean the life sustaining substances such as water and food or very important or vital elements throughout the body, as well.

Medical discoveries regarding the decrease in urine residues among people who tried acupuncture treatment, is encouraging. With alternative forms of treatment, there is now a better chance for successfully treating UTI. However, in spite of these findings, people who want to try acupuncture as their form of treatment should consult their doctors first.
